ETHIOPIAN CHAMBER ACADEMY

BACKGROUND

The Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA) is an apex organization of Chambers and Sectoral Associations in Ethiopia.

ECCSA envisions becoming internationally competitive and exemplary Chamber of Commerce in Africa.

To achieve this vision ECCSA strives to create a vibrant private sector in the country through advocacy, promotion of trade and investment and capacity building.

As part of its Capacity Building intervention, ECCSA is now established a Chamber Academy, a multi-year, national professional development program .

This academy will have two main purposes:

  • Leadership and management training center for Ethiopian Chambers, Associations and other membership based organizations.
  • Introduction of association certification program as an instrument of capacity building to  Ethiopian Chambers, Associations and other membership
Objectives of the Academy
  • To strengthen the leadership and management skills of the Ethiopian Chambers, Associations and other membership based organizations through training.
  • To create platforms to share best practices and experiences among Ethiopian Chambers, Associations and other membership based organizations on areas of Leadership and Management activities.
  • To Enhance communication, cooperation and networking among Ethiopian Chambers, Associations and other membership based organizations.
  • To build the institutional Capacity of Ethiopian Chambers, Associations and other membership based organizations through Association Certification Program.
 ACTIVITIES SO FAR

ECCSA is now established the Chamber Academy with  support of  Center for International Private Enterprises (CIPE), a US based affiliated organization with US Chamber of Commerce. Currently through ECCSA - CIPE partnership    project:

  • A project office and a Training room is arranged at ECCSA compound with the necessary manpower, materials and equipments.
  • Advisory Board for the Academy is established.
  • Two persons from the project team have participated in International Organization for Management (IOM) training program and study tour organized in US.
  • In order to create  potential trainers for the Chamber Academy, 29 Ethiopian experts are trained on 13 different  topics by international consultants through two TOT programs.
  • In order to get inputs on the training topics and materials,17 participants (from national and regional Chambers &Associations) have participated in the  first pilot Training
