Short Profile: Mr. Solomon Afework, President of ECCSA

Mr. Solomon Afework was born on November 13, 1961 at a place called Wolayta Sodo, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State of Ethiopia. Having finished his primary and secondary education at his birth place, he picked up Diploma in Accounting from Addis Ababa Commercial College and later graduated with B.A Degree in Social Sciences and he is now pursuing his post graduate studies in Business Leadership and Conflict Resolution.

Mr. Solomon had served at various public and private institutions for almost six years before he started his own private business.

Mr. Solomon was member of the Board of Directors (BoD) of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA), an apex organization of the Ethiopian private sector, from 2002-2003. He also served as Vice President and Acting President of the Chamber from October 2003 to September 2006 and from September 2006 to April 2006 respectively. Once again, he became member of BoD from December 2011 to May 2014.

Apart from his role in the national chamber, he was President of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations from February 2007 to February 2014.

Mr. Solomon has contributed a lot in the efforts to create a strong private sector in the country. Recognizing his contribution to the cause of the private sector, the General Assembly of ECCSA elected him as President of the National Chamber on May 8, 2014.

He is engaged in various economic sectors such as education, health and agriculture. He is the owner of Joint Vision Development Studies College, Charite Health Center, and Solomon Crop Agricultural Farm.

Mr. Solomon is highly regarded as the advocate for a dynamic private sector in Ethiopia and has been fulfilling his duty with a blend of professionalism and assiduousness.
