Background/Description of the Department/Division

The Legal & Arbitration Service is a department tasked with, as the name itself indicates, affairs relating legal and arbitration. Major services offered (functions) by the Department/Division are:-

• Legal Service: Advising the Board of Directors, the Secretariat, departments and divisions; Representing ECCSA at courts of different levels; drafting legal documents; extending advice to members of the business community and give the required support to, specially, those embarking on import/export activities; are chief to mention.


• Arbitration Service: Facilitating forum for arbitration, conducting annual workshop on Alternative Dispute Resolution, Renting out Arbitration room for ad hoc arbitration; are some of the services well undertaken by the department.


• Major Clients: The major stakeholders (clients) are members of the business community, the government and ECCSA’s staff and members.


• Achievements: ECCSA has established an Arbitration center with a designated room with all facilities to carry out the service.


• Partnership: The legal and arbitration center works in collaboration with different stakeholders (Government, Lawyers and development partners)
